Carbonated pure water is water that has been infused with carbon dioxide gas under pressure, creating effervescence commonly known as carbonation. This process makes the water fizzy, and it is used as the base for many soft drinks. Carbonated water itself has been deemed safe for consumption and is recognized as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA.
