Group of five haloacetic acids (monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, monobromoacetic acid, and dibromoacetic acid) commonly found as disinfection byproducts in chlorinated drinking water. They form when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter. Not used as a food ingredient but are contaminants regulated due to potential health risks.
