A synthetic fluorinated chemical used as a processing aid in the manufacture of fluoropolymers, intended as a replacement for legacy perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Not approved as a food ingredient. Known environmental contaminant with potential for bioaccumulation and adverse health effects including liver toxicity, immune system effects, and developmental toxicity.
