Silica, primarily as silicon dioxide, is a mineral present in many foods and supplements, important for connective tissue and bone health. Horsetail extract (Equisetum arvense) is a herbal source of silica used traditionally for its potential benefits on skin, hair, nails, and bone. The whole plant extract contains flavonoids and antioxidants. Both are used in dietary supplements. Silica as silicon dioxide is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by FDA as a food additive.
