Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a synthetic polymer commonly used as a plastic and resin, also known as acrylic, acrylic glass, or Plexiglas. In the context of food and nutrition, PMMA is not a food ingredient but has occasional use in non-edible applications such as food packaging, medical devices, and dental materials. It is not recognized as safe for human ingestion and is not listed as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA for food use.
